Alaskan Brown Bears! You bet. Join Carolyn E. Wright and myself as we plan our return to Lake Clark National Park along the coast of the Cook Inlet in the great state of Alaska. 5 days of shooting these beautiful bears in an up close and personal environment. Travel with us to Silver Salmon Creek Lodge where we will live along side Coastal Brown Bears, Eagles, Puffins, and more. August is one of the best times to go and our timing is set to observe Bear activity as they begin their fishing behaviors. Chasing, catching, and eating Salmon from Silver Salmon Creek. In the past we have seen baby bears and have captured images of their playful attitudes. For more images of these magnificent creatures return here as I will be posting more over the next couple of weeks. In addition, more bear images can be found Here and Here. And for more information on this amazing adventure check out the workshop page Here. Click on the images for a larger view and remember, comments are always appreciated.

I have been to the Oregon coast on many occasions and have photographed this lighthouse. I have some older images showing the top of the lighthouse in Red but now it has been repainted and as you can see, is black on top. As we left the hotel this morning we were discouraged by the lack of good light as it was raining off and on all morning. We arrived at the the lighthouse thinking that a white lighthouse against a grey sky might be a pretty boring image. And yet, the stormy skies behind the lighthouse added a bit to the dynamics surrounding this photograph and helped to make it a bit more interesting. Please enjoy and remember comments are always welcomed. Click on the above photograph for a larger image.

When photographing waterfalls it is sometimes necessary to look for the more obscure images. Many waterfalls throughout the world are photographed by many people each and every year. Sometimes, its difficult to capture an image that doesn’t look like everyone else’s image. Creativity in focus, depth, composition, and angle of view often times can help when trying to capture that “one of a kind” photograph that sets you apart from the masses of people who hike these trails year in and year out. I captured Ponytail Falls from behind the falls for this image. There was a walkway behind the falls and I worked around behind the falls to see if I can find a more dynamic image. You be the judge. As the song goes, my bags are packed and I am ready to go. The Peter, Paul and Mary song is bouncing in my head as I prepare for my journey home tomorrow morning. All week long we battled the elements and this morning at the Yaquina Head Lighthouse was no different. Located north of Newport Oregon this lighthouse is quite magnificent. It is a morning shot but we were greeted with more bad weather and a lot of rain was coming down upon our arrival. White Lighthouses against a grey sky can be dull and boring. However, with a little magic from my friends at Nik Software, I converted the image to black and white and added a light sepia tone for that antique photo look.
